end of an era

A decade actually..
But what spectacular 10 years they have been.. And surprisingly it doesnt feel that long really.

I like to think I have grown up in the past 10 years.

Maybe I have. But I can still see the gaps. There have been moments of lucidity when I can really pin point where they are. There are even moments of enlightment when I genuinely want to fill them. But they escape. and quickly. Before i can grab them. or even want to.

You know, 10 years from now I will want to read this post and make some meaning out of it.

Things you can get away with on new year

- Laughing and giggling without any apparent reasons
- Eating a lot because apparently what gets consumed in old year, stays in old year (or not. we'll just have to wait(weight??) and watch)
- Dancing to really crappy music and actually enjoying it
- Reminiscing about really non-reminiscingable stuff that happened to you during the year.. (like.. remember how you fell down from the toy train and broke all your limbs. boy wasnt that fun...)
- Making impossible new year resolutions (knowing very well about their fate)
- Have we covered eating a lot already??

baking merry

End of the year is always a jumpy season. It always feels like near holiday time (although I am going to have none :).. Maybe its the effect of television and all these decorations everywhere.

Anyways, I have learned not to question good things in life. And hence I am merely obliviously(ignorantly??/cluelessly??) happy.

This week with K working almost all the time, I have plenty of time on my own. Which I dedicate to the art of baking.

A couple of days ago I successfully(?) made sugarless carrot cake. A bit crumbly, but then hey.. with no refined flour, no butter and no sugar its almost a diet treat.

And then there were those atta-crackers. They did lack proper seasoning for indian palate. Which I intend to improve upon in my next batch with some spices.

And then there is the glorious bread. Yup! I achieved what i always wanted to (happy tears..sob sob). I baked bread. Homemade whole wheat bread. Tastes good too. The only downside is that my kitchen smells like yeast now.

:) If K continues to work like this, I might just open a bakery.

Turns out I had grossly underestimated the awesome-quotient of our systems-IT dept.
You know that little melody that Windows plays when you turn on your computer. Well recently, the IT guys changed that melody to a goats mmeeeaaannnhhh . On all of the systems on our floor..
:D :D

By the way what is it called? Goats moo? grunt? bay?

Dandelions

Time changes a lot of things.

The neighbourhood where I grew up used to be a sub urban heaven. Nobody had a fence and we kids played and roamed around wherever we wanted.

The streets werent cobbled and little weeds and plants were everywhere. And the most beautiful among them were the dandelions.

I guess you need a kid's eyes to notice the beauty of the lowly dandelion. ohh.. wait did i say lowly? I meant lovely. definitely lovely.

I loved them as a kid. I dont know how i forgot them as i grew up.

But when it comes to flowers, I have always favoured yellow. And I had no idea why, until recently.

and the crappy week is finally over..

You know, I am not such a big workaholic.. but the last five days made me yearn for my boring old office.

Well, its over now. Such a sheer crowd of people (okay well dressed people). There were just too many faces to remember. Towards the end, everybody resembled each other. Except one guy. He had wrinkles. On his head. Not forehead.. his head. He was bald and he had wrinkles on his head. A good looking wrinkled head guy.

I am trying to unwind now.. to shake off the dead remains of my erstwhile chirpy aura that was slaughtered by this beastly thing.

So let the weekend begin..

Life is salt and pepper.. no matter what.

This week is scheduled to be absolutely crappy. But then, there are some moments.

Like yesterday, I had to go to this place outside my office for some work thingie.. And I got stopped at the gate.. twice. Why... because they thought I was a student. :D :D I tried convincing them that I was indeed a working professional. But they asked to see my ID..

haha.. and that was totally worth the crappy meeting.

Woke up to a grey foggy morning. The kind when the sun seems to be an empty pale dish set on a grey table.

Warning of days to come when we dont get to see the sun at all... damn you delhi winters.

anyways, decided to fortify our place and brace the winter.

step 1: buy flowers to add color
step 2: buy sofisticated heating devices which wont dry the hell out of my eyes
step 3: wear shoes all the time and stay jumpy
step 4: follow all these steps

:D

After a long pause

Ksh says I keep talking to myself. A lot.

But I beg to differ. I talk to people, imaginary talks with real people. And yeah that is enough to brand me cuckoo..

But anyways, its these conversations in which I come up with my most non-cuckoo realizations. Mostly about life and serious stuff like that.

Occasionaly stupid cheesy stuff. (Life is what you make out of it. Ergo, you should make out a lot)

And yes, I do realize that I am only talking to myself.

You see, I make excellent conversations.

For the hoarder

So I am gonna have to leave Ksh after all. For a few days i mean..

For him its the good ol' bachelor days, and for me... well, its the splendid ol' bachelor days :D :D

Anyways, he demanded that without me around, he should atleast have abundant amount of food in the house.

So, I donned the proverbial baker's apron and baked my first decent batch of butter cookies.

And then another .. :D They turned out to be even better.

So here it is, plain vanilla, mocha and vanilla mocha ..

:)

Out of all the months of the year, October is the one you can smell most clearly.
The cool breeze, clear dust free air, and the heady fragrance of Frangipani..

Now dont get me wrong, I like other months too, specially Feb and March. They are more colourful no doubt, but not nearly as fragrant.

October is what everybody wants to preserve before the harsh winters kick in.

October is what people celebrate after the dark monsoon days when it never stops raining.

October is like youth.

You know how there are days when you behave as if you have ADD..
And no matter how hard you try to concentrate there are gaping holes in logic itself. Nothing wants to make sense and all you want to do is to scream and laugh - like a hyena maybe.
Hyena is one of the most beautiful animal names. If hyena were a girl, she'd be tall with long black hair. And she'll wear gold hoops. large gold hoops. which also means she is rich. and she can drink as many cups of coffee as she wants. i want to match her in coffee. we can have a coffee spree. maybe she could be my friend. and we'd laugh. and scream. like hyenas

of faith and love

Yesterday, some friends were discussing about faith.

The more we discussed, the more we got confused between having faith, being spiritual and being religious.

Although nobody was opposed to anybody, we couldnt get to a conclusion.

And it just dawned on me a while ago, having faith is like having a magic box or a lucky charm.
It really works while you believe in it. But the moment your belief falters and u start questioning it, the magic suddenly disappears. Another corollary might be being in love. It only works if u have faith in each other. The moment you start doubting the other persons love, it disappears.

rain rain go away

What is it with the rain gods this time??
It just doesnt stop raining.

I am literally longing for some sunshine, to see some sky, to get rid of this damp air.
I want crisp sheets.

And I know i am cribbing like a baby but thats how helpless i fell now.

Yesterday at McDonalds I asked the guy if they had "Shake Shake fries"

Poor guy blinked for a second and then replied - "we only have fries, for shakes you have to go downstairs"

(for the uninformed - shake shake fries was a trial variety of fries McD had introduced a while ago)

"Despite the fact that your soul abandoned your body when you became a manager, there will still be some corporate tasks that are so horrible, so evil, that you will not be able to do them yourself. Other times you might need to do something cruel, but you won't want to leave your fingerprints at the scene.
For these situations you need a Human Resources staff. "
